Greetings Comrades:

February 5, 2012

The holidays have come and gone. I hope that all had a blessed and good Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. We are well into the second half of our VFW year 2011-2012. We just finished our Mid-Winter Conference and wish that the attendance could have been better. The information that we received was very beneficial and I hope it will be put to good use.

Congratulations to all the Posts that took the time and energy to make the Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen and Teacher of the Year programs a large success. The highlight of the Mid-Winter Conference was the honoring of our District winners in the Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen and the Teacher of the Year Programs. The Winner of the State Voice of Democracy was Ashli Savage from Post 9809 in District 9. Ashli received a $6,000 scholarship and is going to Washington, D.C. for the VFW National Finals. We wish Ashli, the best of luck and hope she is the National Winner and brings this Award back to the State of Michigan. District 9 has won (4) years in a row.

The All-State program deadline is just around the corner. I hope all the Posts who are participating this year have reported in the required programs by April 30th. This will be the last MOV before the program deadline.

We are again approaching the nomination and election of officers for the 2012-2013 administrative years. Please make sure that you send your Election Report Form in as soon as possible after the elections have taken place. Remember the new rule on installation of officers; they must be installed prior to the State Convention. Remember to choose the best person for the job; not always your best friend. Don’t forget that all audits must be done and dues paid, so your Post can vote in all elections.

Camp Trotter for Children is ours comrades, we will be looking for volunteers to help with the spring clean-up at the Camp. I do not have the exact dates at this time for the clean-up, but I will get them and let you know. Let’s take pride of our Children’s Camp. June 22nd is the golf outing for the Camp. Dept. Sr. Vice Kirk Kennedy is asking that all Sr. Vice Commanders get golf give always that can be used for prizes during the golf outing. If you do not golf that is ok, we will get your prizes to the outing for you.

CONGRATULATIONS to the five Posts that were at 100% at time of the conference. 2725, 3733, 4090, 5695 and 10705. Great job everyone. Comrades we have 11 post’s in our district that need 10 members or less. Let’s go and get these members. We currently have 3715 life members, 86 new members, 69 reinstated members and 1006 continuous members. Our district needs 371 members to be 100% comrades we can do this. We are currently at 92.93%

I would like to ask your assistance in getting your Hospital and Program Activities reports done. These need to be turned in by the 10th of each month, either electronically or by paper. Comrades, make sure that you report to your Commanders everything that you have done during the month so that it may be reported; this is one way that we continue with our nonprofit status.
